CLASS (online): Mastering the Block-In

Details
Mondays, May 27th – July 29th, 6-9pm
(30 hours classtime)
$400USD
Asynchronous option available: $300USD

Overview
In this class we will examine and combine several different strategies for gesture drawing and blocking-in to better understand their relationship and advance our skills setting up a drawing (or painting). We will look at abstract geometric gesture drawing as opposed to more fluid approaches such as developing C curves and/or S curves. We will also explore linear drawing versus mass drawing and how to effectively transition from one to the other. Of course this will encompass placement, scale, and proportion.

From an optical pattern-based perspective we will assess and adjust our work based on the relationship between flat interlocking graphic shapes of light and dark, slowly advancing and refining the relationship between them.

We will also begin to slowly search out, embed, and refine basic structural considerations into our work, looking at blocks, ovoids, cylinders, and centerlines, to simplify our approach. In combination with these blocks and cylinders, the terminator line, where light and shadow meet will be refined and with that, we will begin to explore smaller structural shapes emphatically, and open the door to more three-dimensional advancement.

*This class is appropriate for all skill levels,

**The content covered in this class is applicable to almost any 2D drawing/painting medium, though the class will be taught in graphite to simplify material concerns.
